How I became a Transcriber
Remember cassettes and dictaphones? When I started out as a PA, managers would send me miniature cassette tapes in the post to transcribe. In the 90s, we moved on to using CDs.
Thankfully, methods of recording have moved on (we now use digital audio files securely uploaded to our website), but the skills needed to deliver an efficient and accurate transcription service have not changed. It takes strong listening skills, precision and attention to detail, intuition, and in some cases, knowledge of technical language.
I set up Manchester Transcription Services in 2006 following 20 years as a senior level PA in several large organisations. My experience of providing remote support to executives was my inspiration for the service I now offer.
My first client was a London advertising agency. I still remember the feeling of accomplishment I got from being able to help them out by doing something I enjoy. Every project is an opportunity to learn something new and to simplify a process for the client. My regular clients now include personal injury solicitors, HR teams, university students, professors and researchers.
How it works
Transcription is charged per audio minute. With a 24-hour turnaround for verbatim and non-verbatim transcripts, we usually transcribe from digital audio files with the odd CD thrown in for good measure. We tailor our support to provide what you need, when you need it.
All audio files are stored securely whilst we work on them and then permanently deleted from our server once the project is complete.
